Graduates

An energetic way to launch your career: the trainee programme at OGE.

Here at OGE, we are resolutely committed to achieving the Paris climate goals and are laying the ground for a sustainable energy supply in the future.

Would you like to make a crucial contribution to actively shaping the energy transition? Successfully tackling this important and meaningful task calls for a variety of skills! Which is why we regularly recruit trainees who pursue different specialist areas in our qualification programme. Alongside digitisation or innovation as areas of focus, you can pursue an administrative or technical trainee programme with us, too.

Meet our trainees!

Name:  Timon

Trainee programme focus:  Innovation management

Degree course:  M.Sc. in Management and Engineering at RWTH Aachen

As a trainee focussing on innovation, I have already been able to supervise and help shape my own projects from the idea through to implementation. This meant that a great deal of trust was placed in me from the outset, which was demonstrated by creative freedom and taking responsibility at an early stage.

In this process, I have found the culture at OGE to be very helpful and motivating, which helps when it comes to developing new technological and entrepreneurial ideas together with colleagues from different departments.

Name:  Lisa

Trainee programme focus:  Digitisation

Degree course:  M.Sc. in Management at Ruhr University Bochum

The trainee programme focussing on digitisation enables me to get to know and be a part of the digital transformation at OGE from different perspectives.

I spent the first part of my trainee programme in the IT department’s digitisation team. True to the motto “think big, start small, learn fast”, we worked with various departments to test MVPs (minimum viable products), so we are able to gain important findings about the product and its use even at a very early stage of development. I am looking forward to getting to know other departments and inspiring colleagues with a wide range of technologies.

Name:  Bernhard

Trainee programme focus:  Technical trainee

Degree course:  M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at Ruhr University Bochum

After my initial placements in the Gas Quality Competence Centre and in Corporate Development & Strategy, I am currently working in Technical Operations, where I’m learning about our pipeline network up close.

What I really like about OGE’s training programme is that even as I’m just starting my career, I get a broad insight into the different areas of the company and am also able to look beyond it to see the bigger picture. Your own skills and interests can be taken into account in the choice of placements, but there is also scope for insights into new subject areas.

Name:  Roland

Trainee programme focus:  Administrative trainee

Degree course: M.Sc. in Management at Ruhr University Bochum

The OGE trainee programme attracted me because the six-month placements enable me to familiarise myself not only with the company, but also with the problem areas of widely varying departments.

I started my trainee programme in HR Strategy & Development. Right from the off, I was actively involved in operational and strategic tasks relating to occupational health and safety management, staff development and change management. I am looking forward to challenging tasks in future that offer me the chance to keep developing personally.

The trainee programme in detail

What makes our trainee programme unique:
You! Our trainee programme centres around you, so you can choose your placements flexibly and individually according to your own preferences. Your trainee programme focussing on digitisation and innovation starts with a placement in the IT and/or Innovation Management departments.

In our administrative and technical trainee programmes, you do not have to specify your placements right at the start. Regardless of the focus of the trainee programme, we want you to be able to carve out your own path according to your personal interests. We will be there to advise you and support you with your decisions. Alongside the current trainees, our alumni will also be happy to share their experiences with you.

What else you need to know:
Our trainee programme lasts 24 months. During this time, we will prepare you for the challenging and interesting tasks you’ll face within our company. You will undertake three to four different placements and thus gain a very good impression of the inner workings of our company.

At the end of the 24 months, we would like to help you develop further within our organisation in a permanent position. For this reason, even as you join us you will be given a fixed-term contract of 36 months – so that you don’t need to worry about hunting for the right position during the trainee programme. Thus far, we have taken on almost all our trainees as permanent employees.

How you might start out with us:
In addition to the “on-the-job training”, we offer you subject-specific and personal training options, as well as company-specific lectures to help you gain further qualifications. In ongoing feedback discussions with the HR department, we will reflect with you on your personal development and jointly develop prospects for your future. Furthermore, you will have an experienced trainee by your side as a “sponsor”, who will support you in your induction and in finding your feet within the company. You will also be supported by a mentor, whom you choose for yourself in your first or second placement. This person will be a manager with whom you can enjoy regular meetings to discuss your development and prospects within the company.
